Depend on the support of disk drive and controller driver, you can adjust settings for a disk: Read Ahead, Write Cache, TCQ, and NCQ. Each feature can be enabled or disabled individually.
You can view S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) data about a drive to help troubleshoot problems that occur. You can also setup periodically S.M.A.R.T. status checking to send notification messages when S.M.A.R.T. thresholds are exceeded.
To view S.M.A.R.T status about a drive:
1. Select menu "Manage | Device".
2. Click "SMART" link to display the S.M.A.R.T information page.

Note: the S.M.A.R.T attributes data is drive specific. The software includes a list of definitions for popular drives. Unknown S.M.A.R.T. attributes will be shown as "unknown". You can add the attribute definitions for your drive in the file smart.def (which resides in the software installation directory).
The S.M.A.R.T. feature on each drive can be enabled/disabled individually.
When you physically add drives to the controller while the system is running, you can rescan the controller to reflect the change.
To rescan the devices:

2. Click "Rescan Devices" button.
Note: When you are hot-plugging an array, run rescan after you have all array members plugged. And you can rescan all the devices on the Array Management page.
Initializing a disk writes necessary RAID configuration information to that disk. To create arrays, you must have initialized your disks first. Initialization will destroy all data on the disk.
To initialize disk:

2. Click "Initialize Devices" button.
To unplug a device:
1. Select menu "Manage | Device".
2. Click "Unplug" button.
